Committee members and members of the Heritage group spent a lot of time and effort converting the village hall into a Greek taverna for an evening. This done the doors were opened to a maximum crowd and the entertainment began. It was a bring-your-own booze event with a complimentary glass of sangria on entry. Several of the organisers cooked trays of moussaka and bratslava which were served and thoroughly enjoyed. As soon as dinner was finished Chiller Black hosted an episode of Blind Date. This was swiftly followed by a football-orientated rendition of “The Winner Takes It All”. The Abbarations then performed several songs with an audience singing and dancing along. The best costume was awarded and the evening continued with disco dancing, many forgetting the 70s were a long time ago and risking aching limbs for the next day. The event was a sell-out with apologies to those who missed out on tickets. Such an enjoyable and entertaining evening for so many. Perhaps a “Here We Go Again” sometime next year?
Many thanks to the wonderful people who created the bar, made the disco ball, painted the old backdrop used in previous music hall productions and rescued from storage, created the ambience, cooked, served and cleaned up. A huge effort but well worth it for the joy it spread and the hundreds of pounds it raised for the village hall. There’s an album of photos on the Old Dalby Village Hall Facebook page a few of which are also here and in the album on this site.
